International Alumni Reunion in Washington, D.C.
Bucerius Law School and the ZEIT-Stiftung joined together to host a reunion in Washington, D.C. for international alumni of both institutions. The weekend-long event was held from June 9-11, 2017 and enabled former program participants to reconnect with peers while meeting new contacts from other professional fields.
The gathering followed the format of previous alumni events organized in Paris (2013), New York City (2011) and London (2009). The agenda included a welcome dinner with Law School Dean Katharina Boele-Woelki, a panel discussion framed by the topic “The Worldwide Return to Conservativism and Nationalism,” a forum to explore “Freedom of Science” and excursions to sites of interest such as George Washington’s Mount Vernon and the recently opened National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Discussion space was graciously provided by the German Historical Institute, an internationally recognized center for advanced study that connects American and European scholars in history and the humanities, and the National Association of Broadcasters, a trade association representing the interests of US radio and television broadcasters.
Bucerius and the ZEIT-Stiftung would like to thank Daniella Gibbs Léger (Center for American Progress), Constanze Stelzenmüller (Brookings), Bruce Stokes (German Marshall Fund of the U.S.), Dr. Robin Mishra (Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany) and Dr. Daniel Pontzen (ZDF Studio Washington) for their engagement and having taken the time to share professional insight and expertise.
