International Exchange Program

The Program in International and Comparative Business Law is a one-semester program of studies offered to students from our some 90 partner institutions in 30 countries. It takes place each fall from September to December. Courses are held in English, but students are also welcome to sit in on regular classes taught to Bucerius students, if their knowledge of German allows. The program is designed primarily for law students wishing to broaden and extend their understanding of the forces shaping international business law. In addition, they will gain insights into the day-to-day practice of international business law from experienced professionals working in the field. The program offers a unique opportunity to acquire first-hand knowledge of German, European and international law.

In countries (such as the United States) where law is studied at a graduate level, applicants must have completed at least one year of study at a law school at the time the program begins. In countries (such as Germany) where law is studied at a university level, applicants must have completed at least two years of their legal education.

The academic program at Bucerius is balanced by a well-rounded extracurricular program. During the week-long break in between the two sessions, an optional 5-day study trip to Berlin and Potsdam is offered. Optional German language courses are available throughout the semester. Each year Bucerius Law School welcomes up to 100 students in the Exchange Program. In the last two years the number of applications has risen considerably, with far more applications than spaces available. Students applying to the program are thus carefully selected on the basis of their application materials.

Bucerius Law School has adopted the National Code of Conduct on Foreign Students at German Universities and therefore is proud to grant international students the same rights as are available to German or EU students, over and above this, to offer them the services and assistance that they particularly need as foreign guests.

The application period for next year’s (2011) program begins in January 2011 and the deadline is March 31, 2011.
