Prof. Dr. iur. utr. Dr. phil. Jörg Berkemann
Jörg Berkemann, retired Federal Administrative Court Judge. He was previously a judge at the District Court of Hamburg and the Hamburg Higher Administrative Court. He is Honorary Professor of Public Law at the University of Hamburg and a lecturer at Bucerius Law School. His primary interests are in public planning, environmental and procedural law and European Union law. The achievements of Jörg Berkemann extend far beyond professional qualifications. His forays into philosophy, psychology, language theory and the sociology of law and political science further his repertoire. Added to this is his commitment to German-Jewish history. Disciplinary sovereignty, scientific excellence and a broad horizon.
Prof. James J. Hanks
Jr. Professor James J. Hanks is a partner at Venable LLP, Adjunct Professor of Law at Northwestern Law School in Chicago, Visiting Senior Lecturer at Cornell Business School and a regular guest lecturer at Bucerius Law School. Bucerius Law School recognizes a devoted professor who continuously transcends territorial borders in his work and addresses international issues. James J. Hanks is one of the most renowned professors in "International Mergers and Acquisitions". In the numerous offices he has held, he has contributed to the lasting success of the activities of Bucerius Law School and the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius in the United States.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Klaus J. Hopt, MCJ (NYU)
Director of the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and International Private Law (1995-2008), international researcher and legal scholar. The Bucerius Law School awards Klaus J. Hopt the Medal of Merit for Special Accomplishments in the Field of Law and Legal Development because he is "a builder of bridges between European and Anglo-American legal tradition, a pioneer of modern Capital Market Law and an influential advisor on legal practice and policy".
Dr. Konstantin Mettenheimer
Dr. Konstantin Mettenheimer (*1955) is a lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and enjoys international recognition. He is a builder of bridges between European legal tradition and an internationally evolving business law, between local and multinational law firms, between academia and society, between business management and commercial private law, between conservative legal traditions and dynamic modernization of business law.
