Biography

Doris König, born 1957 in Kiel; holds the Chair of Public Law, General Adminstrative Law, International and European Law. She studied law at the Christian Albrecht University in Kiel and after the First State Exam (1980) participated in a post-graduate program at the University of Miami School of Law, gaining the degree of Master of Comparative Law (M.C.L.) in 1982. After the Second State Exam in law she served as research fellow at the Institute of International Law at Kiel University, where in 1989 she completed her doctoral thesis, dealing with the enforcement of international provisions on the protrection of the marine environment and the conservation of species on the High Seas in the interest of the community of States. From 1989 to 1992 she served as a judge at the Hamburg State Court.  

Doris König then returned to Kiel University where she worked as a research fellow at the Walther-Schücking-Institute of International Law. In 1998 she completed her post-doctoral thesis on the transfer of sovereign rights within the framework of the European integration process. She received the venia legendi in Public Law, International Law and European Community Law. For three semesters she taught Public, International Economic Law and European Community Law at the universities of Saarbrücken, Halle and Kiel. Her main research interests are in the fields of European Integration Law, the International Law of the Sea, International Environmental Law in relation to International Economic Law and the International Law of Human Rights.
