Founded in 2000 by the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, Bucerius Law School is Germany’s first private law school with the right to award doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. Bucerius Law School is licensed by the state and accredited by the "Wissenschaftsrat" (German Science and Humanities Council).

- According to a survey conducted in summer 2007 by the "Hochschulinformationssystem" (HIS), 97 % of Bucerius students stated that they were either "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with the studying conditions at Bucerius Law School (as a comparison: the national average in Germany is 37 %)
Graduates of the German First State Examination
- Average grade of candidates who took the exam in 2008: over 10 points, about 75 % of all graduates completed the exam with outstanding results (national average: approximately 6 points, with about 20 % obtaining outstanding results)
- Average length of studies: equivalent to 8 semesters (national average: 10.4 semesters)

LL.B./German First State Examination
- Approximately 100 students accepted each year (classes always begin on October 1)
- Application deadline: May 15 of the desired starting year
- Ca. 600 applications per year
- Selection process: written exam and oral assessment (both in July)
Bucerius/WHU Master of Law and Business - Joachim Herz Program
- Approximately 50 students accepted each year
- Application deadline: March 31 of the desired starting year
- Selection process: personal statement specifying the reasons for wishing to participate in the program, a legal or business-related writing sample, 2-3 letters of recommendation, university transcript(s), curriculum vitae and proof of English-language proficiency

Financing of the Law School
- Financing is not only secured through the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, but also through tuition fees and third party donations
- LL.B./German First State Examination in Law: tuition is € 3,700 per trimester, a total of € 44,400 for 12 trimesters
- Bucerius/WHU Master of Law and Business - Joachim Herz Program: tuition is € 22,000 for the one-year program
- Total Budget 2010: € 14.8 million (ca. 58 % from the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, 23 % from tuition fees, 10 % from donations, 8 % from the Law School's commercial activities and revenue, 1 % income from the intergenerational contract)
