About Bucerius Law School

International Network

A key component of the Bucerius philosophy

Bucerius is proud of its wide-ranging partnerships with prestigious higher education institutions worldwide, which—complimented by an active network of more than 2000 international alumni and supported by liaison offices in the USA and China—provide opportunities for student and faculty exchange, joint programming and professional development.

Partner Universities

Bucerius Law School is proud to maintain vibrant academic partnerships with leading law faculties across the globe.

All partnerships cover student mobility, including exchanges within the ERASMUS framework. A term abroad is a mandatory component of the LLB curriculum for Bucerius students and, each fall, approximately 100 exchange students spend one semester in Hamburg.

Within this portfolio of high-profile partnerships, deeper bilateral collaborations with select universities have been developed and include joint study programs as well as research projects and academic events.

Recognizing the importance of international experience and sharing expertise among colleagues, Bucerius also conducts administrative staff exchanges within its network.

Liaison Offices

American Friends of Bucerius, Inc. (AFB) is a non-profit organization that represents Bucerius Law School and the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius in the United States.

From the headquarters in New York City, their programs take place across the United States. AFB offers high-profile conferences, lectures, and discussion series on topics including law and the legal profession, civil society and good governance, and philanthropy. In doing so, AFB works with partners from the non-profit sector, independent policy and research organizations, academic institutions and the corporate sector. AFB also works to build financial resources and collaborations which support the US-based initiatives of the ZEIT-Stiftung and the Bucerius Law School.

International Alumni Network

Since its founding in 2000, Bucerius Law School has welcomed more than 2000 international students to its International Exchange Program, the Master of Law and Business Program and the Bucerius Summer Programs. These former students now make up the growing Bucerius International Alumni Network.

The International Alumni Network stays connected through numerous activities around the globe. Bi-annual international alumni reunions take place in Hamburg every other year. When they are not held in Hamburg, reunions are organized in collaboration with the ZEIT-Stiftung in other major cities throughout the world including, in recent years, London, New York City and Washington, DC. Regional international alumni chapters have been established in order to connect alumni from and currently based in regional areas where large alumni communities exist.

The Bucerius Alumni Association was founded in 2004 by the first class of LL.B. graduates. The association is autonomous and independent, but works closely with Bucerius Law School and especially with the Alumni Relations Department. The main goal of the association is to promote cohesion and contact between the former members of Bucerius Law School and their university.

It is open to all graduates of the LL.B., but also to alumni of the Master of Law and Business (LLM/MLB) program and the International Exchange Program participants. Over 90% of LL.B. graduates join the Alumni Association.
