The topic of discussion was “Law of the Information Society”. The Center for Transnational IP, Media & Technology Law and Policy (Bucerius IP Center) welcomed 10 renowned professors of intellectual property and technology law as well as doctoral students to the seminar.
The conference was led by two alumni, Prof. Dr. Benjamin Raue (Universität Trier) und Prof. Dr. Michael Grünberger (Universität Bayreuth). Also present were Prof. Dr. Maximilian Becker from the Universität Siegen, Prof. Dr. Katharina de la Durantaye from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Prof. Dr. Christian Heinze from Hannover, Prof. Dr. Franz Hofmann of the Universität Erlangen-Nürnburg, Prof. Dr. Nadine Klass from Mannheim, Prof. Dr. Anne Lauber-Rönsberg of TU Dresden, Prof. Dr. Louisa Specht from the Unversität Passau, and Prof. Dr. Herbert Zech from Basel. In all, these professors invited around 20 of their doctoral candidates to Hamburg for this mutual exchange.
Representatives from Bucerius Law School included four doctoral candidates at the Bucerius IP Center, as well as hosts Professor Dr. Dana Beldiman and Karsten Windler. The main objective of the seminar was to improve the quality of doctoral studies through networking and information exchange, as well as achieve meaningful professional and personal interaction between all participants.
The seminar’s presentation topics included “Technical Contractual Purpose Interference”, “The Acquisition of Digital Works” and “The Canadian YouTube Barrier”, as well as ones on the “green” space of intellectual property in the modern information society.
The presenting doctoral candidates were able not only to form impressions of their peers, but also of the attending professors. The participants also had many other opportunities to meet each other and network. For example, on the first evening, after a lively round of presentations, Bucerius Law School invited the participating professors to a reception with wine and pretzels. In addition, a group visit to Hogan Lovells’ Hamburg office also formed part of the programme. Finally, in connection with the seminar, participants had the opportunity to take part in the annual GRUR conference being held in Hamburg.
