International Alumni Reunion

What an outstanding weekend it was! Sightseeing in Hamburg, new insights on current legal topics and—most important of all—good conversation and an opportunity to reunite and reminisce.

Within the Law School’s 15-year celebration, the fifth International Alumni Reunion took place in Hamburg on the weekend of September 18-19. More than 100 former exchange students, summer program participants and MLB graduates returned to Hamburg from all parts of the globe to spend two days back on campus.

Markus Hartung, Director of the Bucerius Center on the Legal Profession, opened the event with a thought-provoking presentation on “Tomorrow’s Law Firms – Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Our Future.” A celebratory mood surrounded the evening’s reception at the Goßlerhaus where new Law School Dean Katharina Boele-Woelki addressed participants. Saturday morning’s program included visits to Airbus, Lufthansa Technik and the port city’s container terminal. Participants had a chance to relax during the early afternoon with boat cruises along the Elbe and Alster. The goal? Build up strength for the evening ahead: drinks and musical entertainment from the Bucerius Big Band to kick off a night on the town!

Jonathan Hon, a 2011 exchange student, summed up the mood:
“The reunion was a great opportunity to relive the experience at Bucerius. I was able to reconnect and spend time with exchange friends now living in different parts of the world. Despite not seeing each other for many years, we easily rekindled our friendships at the many fantastic events organized by the International Office. Being back at Bucerius brought back all the fond memories from the exchange program and it was wonderful to have the reunion in Hamburg. It was a sensational weekend and I look forward to future reunions!”

We are proud of the strong connection to Bucerius displayed by so many individuals in undertaking the long journey back to Hamburg. We very much enjoyed the two days together with alumni and are already looking forward to the next reunion!
