On October 4th 2016, Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti with torrential rains and sustained winds of up to 145 mph. The hurricane, which was the first category 4 storm to hit Haiti in 25 years, devastated large parts of the Southern part of the country. It has been reported by reliable sources that more than 1,000 were killed and tens of thousands displaced.
Hurricane Matthew left a dire situation for the people of Haiti and created an atmosphere of concerns for the MLB students and the rest of the Bucerius family. Thus, members of "BLS Stand for Haiti", a social project initiated by Peterson Clarke, a native of Haiti, hosted a Halloween event on October 27th, 2016 to help raise funds for the victims of the hurricane.
The event turned out to be a huge success as more than 100 people, dressed in their scariest outfits, came to show their support for Haiti. Through the event, "BLS Stand for Haiti" was able to raise over 1,000 euros which was donated to Haiti Health Initiative (HHI), a nonprofit organization based in Haiti, which focuses on serving the public health needs of the rural Haitian people.
