On November 4, 2015, Professor David S. Clark of the Willamette University College of Law, USA was awarded the Bucerius Law School Badge of Honor before a gathering of faculty members and invited guests. The gesture recognizes Clark for his outstanding contributions and commitment to the Law School.

Over the course of his academic career, Clark has held positions at numerous prestigious universities in the Americas, Asia and Europe and completed several research stays at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law. His widely recognized research focuses on comparative private law.

Clark joined the faculty of Willamette University in 2002, the same year in which he became closely connected to Bucerius. In addition to lecturing within the International Exchange Program, he has provided invaluable service to our institution: notably, as the coordinator of efforts to have the Exchange Program recognized by the American Bar Association (ABA). As a result of his support, exchange students from the US are able to spend a semester in Hamburg and have the merits of their legal coursework recognized by their home institutions. Through this undertaking, Professor Clark has made a meaningful contribution to the internationalization of higher education and enabled collaboration with American law schools. Dean Boele-Woelki honored Clark in saying, "It is a token of our esteem, it is a sign of our thankfulness for all your efforts to establish a truly international legal education at our law school, and it is a token of our appreciation of a great legal scholar. Connecting Bucerius Law School with your name, David Clark, through our badge of honor makes us very proud. We are honored to honor you!"
