Women in Israel and Germany today
General information
In Israel, a recent regression in women’s status can be observed:
While Israelian women are unprecedentedly excluded from the public sphere, they are also not rewarded for their role as mothers in the private sphere anymore. Which political and legal powers have women gained through motherhood in the past and why is this "ticket to citizenship" now eroding? What are the arguments for excluding women from public spaces? And are there similar – or very different – developments in Germany?
After an introducing statement, we will we will discuss the status quo of women's right in Israel and Germany with Prof. Dr. Daphna Hacker who researches and teaches with a focus on the intersection of law, families and gender at Tel Aviv University.
