Master of Law and Business: Study Trip to Berlin
At the beginning of November 2015, students from the Bucerius Master of Law and Business program spent three days in Berlin exploring Germany’s thriving start-up scene and discussing theory and practice with representatives from various start-ups.
On the first day, students visited Zeotap, a technology company that helps telecom operators activate and monetize their data assests, and Savedo, a company which acts as a financial intermediary for savings and investments. There, the class were given a short presentation about each of the companies and gained further insights into the day to day business from MLB alumnae Anna Engelgardt (Class of 2014) and Elif Kocaoglu (Class of 2013).
Having gained their first impressions, some of the class visited Medigo, a platform that assists in finding healthcare abroad, and Comatch, a platform matching consultants to projects. Students and founders of the start-ups engaged in a lively panel discussion moderated by MLB lecturer and Partner by Atlantic Labs, Dr. Marc-Olivier Lücke. The other members of the class had the opportunity to learn how venture capital companies work in general and what makes a successful business model through visits to Lakestar and Crosslend
Further visits to and workshops by Mimi Hearing Technologies, Home24 and Flightright allowed students an invaluable glimpse into the varied and diverse fields of business and law involved in founding a business and its subsequent growth.
A particular highlight of the trip was the dinner held with MLB alumni working in start-ups in Berlin. This event gave the current MLB students the opportunity to exchange ideas and gain advice from alumni who enjoyed sharing their experiences.
The impressions and insights gained in these three days made the trip a real success for both the MLB students and the program and has inspired many students to apply for their internships in the start-up scene.
