Education & Study |

What is your academic and professional background?

R/ Before coming to Bucerius Law School, I studied law at Universidad Escuela Libre de Derecho in Costa Rica, where I obtained my law degree. I joined the bar association in the same year. I currently work in a law firm in Costa Rica, specializing in Corporate Law.

Why did you choose to participate in the Legal Tech Summer Program?

R/ I chose the summer program because it offered a wealth of knowledge and tools that will be necessary to practice the profession with the challenges of the coming years. Initially, I was curious about the subject, wanting to understand why legal technology matters and how much it will change the landscape as we know it.

My curiosity led me to investigate its content, and I found that it could provide me with a new and relevant perspective due to its inclusion of areas beyond the field of law involved in applying technology to legal operations.

In what way is studying with a diverse group beneficial, in your opinion?

R/ In many respects, it is beneficial. The vision and knowledge provided are extensive. It is an exciting opportunity to explore different solutions for current problems. The current legal challenges surpass national boundaries, and having multiple nationalities simultaneously enriches and strengthens the learning experience with different experiences and backgrounds.

It makes the exchange and experience both within and outside the academic realm much more interesting and significantly broadens one’s understanding.

How did the Berlin Study Trip contribute to the learning experience in the program?

R/ The trip to Berlin was an incredible experience because we were able to see the practical application of the knowledge gained in classes with professors and innovators in the field of legal technology.

In addition to the variety of practical approaches that we had the opportunity to experience. We were shown the true use of new technologies with a legal focus on the challenges they face and the essence of Legal Tech.

What is the most interesting thing you learned academically and personally during the summer program?

R/ The most interesting thing I learned is the future of law and legal services, how they will be used, and the concepts that involve knowledge from other areas, which excites and enthuses me. We had excellent presentations from specialists who showcased their projects and contributions to legal tech.

Additionally, this includes my personal perception of the growth and strengthening of knowledge that will be important to face the new challenges influenced by technology. In conclusion, the program exceeded my expectations by providing knowledge for understanding legal tech, its dynamics, and challenges. In terms of personal growth, the multicultural experience is highly valuable.

What new knowledge are you going to put into practice?

R/ I estimate that, from both a personal and professional general perspective, all the knowledge acquired will be crucial for developing curiosity and utilizing tools that honestly, I previously had a general idea about, which are undoubtedly vital in legal practice. Additionally, it fosters a constant motivation to innovate, and adapt our thinking to align with technological changes.

Who would you recommend the program to?

R/ I recommend it to anyone curious about understanding the complete picture of the functioning of legal operations and technology to date, including its motivations, content, and practical applications. From there, one can consider how technology is and will change the future of law and legal services.

How did you like Hamburg?

R/ Very much so, I was very pleased. The experience was quite varied, with the university organizing several walking tours, museum visits, and opportunities to explore the city with participants, which was a great experience. Visiting the harbor was something I particularly enjoyed. We also had the coincidence that during the summer course, the European Championship was being held in Germany, which created a great multicultural and exciting atmosphere. I hope to return.

Is there anything you would like to share with future international students at Bucerius?

R/ From my perspective, If you are curious about expanding your knowledge on the subject while enjoying a multicultural environment, it will be a great experience. I recommend participating in the summer program.

Pablo, thank you for the interview.
