What is your academic and professional background?
R/ Before coming to Bucerius Law School, I studied law at Universidad Escuela Libre de Derecho in Costa Rica, where I obtained my law degree. I joined the bar association in the same year. I currently work in a law firm in Costa Rica, specializing in Corporate Law.
Why did you choose to participate in the Legal Tech Summer Program?
R/ I chose the summer program because it offered a wealth of knowledge and tools that will be necessary to practice the profession with the challenges of the coming years. Initially, I was curious about the subject, wanting to understand why legal technology matters and how much it will change the landscape as we know it.
My curiosity led me to investigate its content, and I found that it could provide me with a new and relevant perspective due to its inclusion of areas beyond the field of law involved in applying technology to legal operations.
In what way is studying with a diverse group beneficial, in your opinion?
R/ In many respects, it is beneficial. The vision and knowledge provided are extensive. It is an exciting opportunity to explore different solutions for current problems. The current legal challenges surpass national boundaries, and having multiple nationalities simultaneously enriches and strengthens the learning experience with different experiences and backgrounds.
It makes the exchange and experience both within and outside the academic realm much more interesting and significantly broadens one’s understanding.
How did the Berlin Study Trip contribute to the learning experience in the program?
R/ The trip to Berlin was an incredible experience because we were able to see the practical application of the knowledge gained in classes with professors and innovators in the field of legal technology.
In addition to the variety of practical approaches that we had the opportunity to experience. We were shown the true use of new technologies with a legal focus on the challenges they face and the essence of Legal Tech.
What is the most interesting thing you learned academically and personally during the summer program?
R/ The most interesting thing I learned is the future of law and legal services, how they will be used, and the concepts that involve knowledge from other areas, which excites and enthuses me. We had excellent presentations from specialists who showcased their projects and contributions to legal tech.
Additionally, this includes my personal perception of the growth and strengthening of knowledge that will be important to face the new challenges influenced by technology. In conclusion, the program exceeded my expectations by providing knowledge for understanding legal tech, its dynamics, and challenges. In terms of personal growth, the multicultural experience is highly valuable.
