Partners and Study Trip

Creating a realistic and ambitious program would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Their constant feedback creates a practice-oriented dynamic and their gracious invitation to Frankfurt adds a valuable and unique experience to the program's schedule.

Law Firm Partner

Baker McKenzie

Though it may sound counter-intuitive, disruption and innovation isn't 'new' to Baker McKenzie—by contrast, it has helped shape the way the firm operates today and informs how its practitioners behave as lawyers of the future. Baker McKenzie has been at the forefront of innovation within the legal sector since its founding in 1949. The original global law firm—in fact, for many years, the only global law firm—Baker McKenzie is a pioneer at entering new markets, each time establishing offices driven by local lawyers and talent.

Baker McKenzie has become one of the world's largest law firms by revenue, markets and headcount through organic growth. The firm understands that successful practices must adapt and be proactive, rather than retrench and practice old models.

Today, volatility and uncertainty are the new norm and call for innovative lawyers with an ability to help their clients navigate constantly changing and challenging markets. This requires a different mindset and new type of thinking; it demands lawyers who collaborate unusually well across borders, markets and industries around the globe—lawyers who embrace new ideas and emerging technologies to give businesses confidence in the face of uncertainty.

Baker McKenzie embraces change, deploys technology, works with design thinking and sets up innovation hubs like the Toronto-based Whitespace Collab or the partnership with ReInvent Law in Frankfurt. Put simply, the firm knows that being "a good lawyer" is no longer enough. We must redesign how we deliver legal advice in a way that makes sense for clients and see business challenges through the client's lens.

Study trip to the Capital of New Law

Excursion to Frankfurt

The first week of the program culminates in an intensive two-day excursion to Frankfurt am Main. In addition to being the Eurozone's financial capital, the city is also home to offices for most large international laws firms.

The group will spend a night close to the city center and take part in an intensive workshop with practitioners and clients. A portion of the excurision will be held at ReInvent Law, the Baker McKenzie-backed legal innovation hub in Frankfurt's Harbor District. Unveiled in April 2018, the space hosts several start-ups and is a venue for events concerning innovation in the legal industry. Renowned experts will share their ideas from a law firm and in-house perspective. The excursion will conclude with a round of networking and drinks.

The study trip offers a unique opportunity to get in touch with fellow legal innovators and familiarize yourself with the European legal innovation scene. Clients will bring real-world challenges and your ideas of new processes and solutions could really make a difference!
