Berlin continues to be a dynamic, buzzing creative hub much loved by entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and law firms alike. During the 3-day trip, students and staff had the opportunity to meet Bucerius LLB and MLB alumni und take a glimpse into the operations of an exciting selection of start-ups as well as established companies.
The group visited the following:
- Freshfields Hub: The Freshfields Hub brings focuses on clients needs by bringing together teams of lawyers, technologists, and support staff who design more agile and efficient ways to deliver legal services.
- APX by Axel Springer and Porsche: Based in stunning new office space and backed by Axel Springer and Porsche, APX supports and partners with the most ambitious pre-seed startups from Europe and beyond – often as their first investor. APX launched in 2018, succeeding the Axel Springer Plug and Play Accelerator, which from 2013 to 2017 was the first investor in more than 100 startups, including fintech unicorn N26.
- Raisin: A trailblazer for open banking in the deposits and investments space. This FinTech company provides an open banking infrastructure for the global $50+ trillion deposit market that benefits banks and savers alike.
- EY Taxation: Offers globally coordinated tax solutions by teams of international professionals accross all tax disciplines.
- Fieldfisher X: Started in January 2022 by an LLB alumnus, this legal tech start-up offers scalable legal services. Combining outstanding legal expertise and smart technology platforms, Fieldfisher X delivers precise, cost-effective and time efficient management of mass litigation and other legal services.
For a bit of sightseeing, the group enjoyed a boat tour on the Spree taking in many historic sights such as the Reichstag and Museum Island and a walking tour of the vibrant Oranienburger Str. and Hackesche Höfe – the former jewish quarter and an area considered by many to be the actual old town of Berlin. The traditional alumni dinner, an event bringing together current students with MLB alumni living and working in Berlin, took place on Thursday evening. Here there was the chance to meet new people, reach out and expand networks as well as to enjoy a great evening with delicious food and drinks.

In conclusion, the visit to Berlin certainly broadened the students horizons and gave them an idea not only of life in Berlin, but also new personal and professional connections and fresh perspectives on how to structure their spring internships and pursue long-term career opportunities across Germany and Europe.
