Education & Study |

What is a motivation letter? Writing a good motivation letter is crucial for making a strong impression. It gives you the opportunity to highlight your skills and personality and shows how you can be a valuable addition to the Master of Law & Business Program.

It can include information about your special interests, life experiences, accomplishments, goals, community involvement and any other information that might be helpful to the admission committee. Here are some valuable tips so that you know what we really want to hear from you:

1. Don’t just repeat your CV

We really want to hear about your reasons for wanting to be selected for the Bucerius Master of Law and Business. Many applicants write in great detail about their decision to study a certain subject for their undergraduate degree and about their work experience but not a lot else.

While this information is interesting and relevant, most of it is evident in the CV and does not have to be repeated in the motivation letter.

2. Connect your work/life experience to the Master of Law and Business

Why would you like to study an interdisciplinary program such as the MLB? We would like to know why you want to pursue postgraduate studies at the intersection of law and business?  Give examples of situations in which you realized that knowledge of just one discipline isn’t sufficient in your line of work.

Give us an idea of your future plans and dreams, and how the knowledge you would gain in the Bucerius Master of Law and Business Program will assist you in reaching your professional goals. We would also like to hear about why you would for example like to pursue post-graduate education in an international setting?

3. Tell us about your hobbies and extracurricular activities and international experiences

We really value students who like to reach out beyond their academic and professional lives. If you have done any social projects, charity work etc., we would like to hear about it.

What are your hobbies and interests? Have you studied or worked abroad, or maybe you have worked in an international team?  Tell us about it!

In conclusion

We would like to hear why you want to study in the Bucerius Master of Law and Business Program, tell us what kind of skills and passions you bring to the table and give us a glimpse of who you are!
