On November 17th and 18th 2018, the Bucerius Law School hosted the 4th Bucerius Mediation Competition. The event serves as preparation for the 14th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris which is organized by the International Chamber of Commerce.
The teams arrived on Friday afternoon and started to practice their mediation skills and gain experience in simulated sessions against other universities. After twenty sessions in the preliminary rounds, two teams made it to the final rounds. Ronald Silley acted as the mediator and Dr. Marcus Bauckmann, Casey Reynolds and Claudia Kück as jurors.
This year, we were joined by Aarhus University, Leibnitz University of Hanover, Russian State University (Moscow), University of Kyiv, University of Ljubljana, University of Marburg, KU Leuven, University of Florence. The first place went to the team of the Leibnitz University of Hanover and the second place to the team of Bucerius Law School. Adenike Olayinka (Hanover) was awarded the Marlies Bauckmann Award for best negotiation style.
We are very grateful to all participants and supporters, to our organizer Jan Lohse and to our sponsors, the Center for International Dispute Resolution and Dr. Marcus Bauckmann. Without them, the competition would not have been possible.
