Admission & Application

Bucerius Summer Programs are designed for advanced law students and recent graduates. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a keen interest in the field of practice on which their program focuses.


Prerequisites

Applicants must fulfill the following prerequisites if they wish to be considered for admission.

1) Level of legal studies

Applicants must have completed either 2 years of undergraduate legal studies or one year of graduate legal studies.

2) Prior Subject Experience

Candidates must demonstrate a proven interest in the subject matter of the selected summer program. Interest can be proven through work/internship experience, self-study or coursework.

Are you an advanced professional?

Have you been working in the legal profession for 5+ years and are fluent in German? Perhaps consider the offerings of Bucerius Executive Education!

3) Language Proficiency

Sufficient language proficiency must be proven by any of the following

  • TOEFL Internet-Based Test (IBT): 90
  • IELTS Academic Program: 7.0
  • Duolingo: 120
  • CAE: B or CPE: C
  • ILEC
  • Full-time legal studies in English
  • Phone Interview (only if students have significant experience studying in English)

German language skills are not required.

Application

1) Online Application Portal

Applications will only be accepted via an online application portal. 

Applications are processed as they come in and applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible. Decisions are made within FOUR weeks of receiving the complete application.

Deadlines:

  • February 15: automatic early application discount of 15%
  • March 1: applicants for financial aid/ applicants who need a visa
  • May 1: final deadline for visa-free participants
  • There is no application fee

2) Required Documents

Transcript of grades

You must upload your law school transcripts in English or German. If you have transcripts for other non-law university studies, please upload those transcripts as well.

Transcripts should include a description of the grading system and a class rank, if available.

Proof of English Proficiency

This photo will be used for a student directory. Please choose a current photo that will help your summer program classmates recognize you on the first day.

Motivational Statements

You will be asked to outline your motivation, previous academic and professional experience and international experience.

Financial Aid Application

If you are applying for financial aid, the application MUST be submitted by March 1 along with your application for admission or it cannot be considered.

3) Admission process

Applicants can expect to be informed within FOUR weeks whether their application was successful. Financial aid decisions will be communicated at the same time.
