Bucerius Law School and the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management combine their expertise with an academic partnership

The "Bucerius Master of Law and Business Program" extends its competence in business administration.

The Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar have concluded an academic partnership agreement which will build upon and deepen their previous cooperation. The WHU – Otto Beisheim School and Bucerius Law School have been working closely together since 2006. Initially (until 2014) in the MLB program, and since 2011 in the Certificate of Business Administration offered to bachelor students of Bucerius and the Diploma in Business Law offered to students at the WHU.

The business adminstration expertise of the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management will enable the Bucerius Law School to strengthen the business management curriculum in its "Bucerius Master of Law and Business Program" (LL.M/MLB Program) further enhancing the interdisciplinary and practice oriented training in the MLB Program at the interface of law and business.

The cooperation between the two universities will also be reflected in the new name of the master's program which will, as of September 2020, operate under the name "Bucerius Law School Master of Law and Business in co-operation with WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management".

Further particulars of the agreement include:

  • The establishment of a WHU professorship based at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. The chair holder will work together with Prof. Dr. Carsten Jungmann, Bucerius Law School, to form the directorate of the MLB program. The new professor will be responsible for the content of the business courses in the MLB program, while Prof. Jungmann will continue to be responsible for the law courses.The Program Directors will report to Prof. Clifford Larsen, Dean of the MLB Program.
  • A deeper focus on interdisciplinary research between the two universities. Academics from the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management and the Bucerius Law School will also teach courses at the partner university. 

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Katharina Boele-Woelki, President of the Bucerius Law School, sees the new co-operation as “a mutual, institutionalized enrichment of interdisciplinary teaching and research at both universities. Through this academic partnership between two renowned teaching and research institutions in their respective fields, we will create new perspectives for our students and our researchers in the field of education and research."
