ICCML in Shanghai: Comparative Law Conference on Capital Markets Law in China and Germany

On October 23, 2015, the Institute for Corporate and Capital Markets Law (ICCML), together with Tongji University and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organized a comparative law conference in Shanghai with a focus on foreign investment in the Chinese capital market. The event centered on current developments in capital markets law in China and the strengthening of enforcement concepts to support a stabilization of the domestic market. On the Chinese side, high-level speakers from academia and industry were involved, including a representative from the legal department of the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Against the backdrop of turbulences in China’s stock markets in recent months, a lively and intense discussion unfolded. For the German side, the scientific community was represented in discussion and talks given by Professor Dr. Rüdiger Veil, Bucerius Law School, Professor Dr. Dr. Dr. mult. h.c. Klaus J. Hopt, Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Hamburg), and Professor Dr. Matthias Casper, University of Münster; representing views from practice were Thomas Höppner, Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, and Dr. Steffen Gehring, Südwestmetall, Verband der Metall- und Elektroindustrie Baden-Württemberg e.V., the Baden-Württemberg Metal and Electrical Industry Employers' Association.
