Why did you choose to study at Bucerius?
Monica: I chose to study abroad because I wanted to expand my knowledge of international and comparative business law. At Bucerius, I was able to take courses from experienced legal professionals from across the globe, so I not only learned the basics of European law, but the language of international business practices at-large.
Audrey: I specifically chose the program at Bucerius for its small class sizes, prime location, and diverse array of international business courses. The fact that the entire curriculum was delivered in English made the transition seamless, allowing me to focus on absorbing knowledge and forging connections with fellow students from around the globe.
Bucerius Law School went above and beyond to ensure that study abroad students like me felt integrated with the German student body. Serving as a student representative during the program further enriched my experience, allowing me to collaborate with program directors to organize engaging events and ensure that every participant was thoroughly enjoying their time abroad.
Choosing to attend Bucerius was unequivocally one of the highlights of my law school journey. If given the chance, I would eagerly seize the opportunity to relive those transformative moments once again.
Would you recommend studying abroad to other American JD students?
Monica: Given the increasingly global nature of business transactions, I would recommend a semester abroad for any law student interested in business law in general. Now, I not only see my experience at Bucerius as a critical component of my legal education, but an invaluable part of my legal career and professional development.
Audrey: While many American law students opt to attend class solely in their home institutions, I am immensely grateful that I took the leap to study abroad in Hamburg, Germany. Embarking on this journey was nothing short of exhilarating, reshaping not only my legal knowledge but also my entire perspective on the world.
Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone fortunate enough to have the opportunity. The bonds you forge with your classmates will extend far beyond the classroom, blossoming into lifelong friendships that transcend international borders. Moreover, the chance to explore new horizons, immerse yourself in German and European law, and traverse the globe is an unparalleled adventure that promises personal growth and professional enrichment.
What is the most interesting thing you learned here?
Monica: Since all of my professors took a very practical approach to teaching, I learned how different legal strategies play out in the real world. Most importantly, I gained a better understanding of global politics, and the cultural forces that shape different legal systems around the world.
Audrey: Studying in Germany isn't just about absorbing information from textbooks and lectures; it's a dynamic experience that immerses you in a rich tapestry of culture, history, and legal tradition. As an American student, delving into a completely different legal system offers a profound opportunity to reevaluate and expand your understanding of the law.
