Where did you work before coming to Bucerius?
Before coming to Bucerius, I worked at BGI Legal, the leading law firm in Georgia. I was part of a litigation team as a Junior Associate, mainly assisting with commercial disputes, due diligence, as well as IP and tax matters. It was a great experience that helped me understand how legal and business aspects connect in real life.
Why did you decide to study in Germany?
I decided to study in Germany quite early - long before my legal career began. German academics had a significant influence on shaping Georgian legislation after the country’s liberation from Soviet occupation. Today, much of Georgia’s commercial and business law is modeled after German law, and Germany itself has an outstanding reputation for both legal education and business.
I wanted to study in an international environment where law, business, and innovation come together. Germany’s structured yet practical approach to education felt like the perfect fit for me.
What makes the MLB Program so special in your opinion?
Even though lawyers are usually pragmatic and risk-averse, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset - while still wanting to strengthen my legal foundation. The Bucerius MLB Program is truly
What are the biggest differences between Germany and Georgia?
There are quite a few! But the biggest one for me is definitely the attitude toward time. In Germany, punctuality isn’t just a stereotype - it’s a lifestyle, and I really appreciate that.
Another difference is the mindset. Germans tend to be task-oriented and cautious, while in Georgia, we often prefer to “go with the flow” and aren’t afraid to take big risks - sometimes a bit too big!
What’s an experience in Hamburg that is completely new to you?
Riding a bike everywhere! In Tbilisi, cycling isn’t really common because the city is so hilly that even the weather changes from one neighborhood to another. In Hamburg, biking is part of daily life, and I love it.
I’ve also enjoyed exploring the many sides of Hamburg - it takes you on every kind of journey imaginable, from the chaotic Reeperbahn to the peaceful, forested areas of Wedel, and from there to one of Europe’s largest ports. Watching huge cruise ships and cargo vessels on the Elbe feels completely different from home.

ALL PORTRAITS
How do you like living in Hamburg?
I really enjoy it. Hamburg offers every kind of lifestyle, and no matter who you are or what you like, you’ll find a place that fits you. It’s peaceful yet vibrant, touristic yet industrial, full of both old and modern architecture, forests and rivers.
The city has a special charm - clean, organized, and surrounded by water, which gives it a calming atmosphere. But when you need some energy, there’s always Sternschanze or Altona. The weather took some time to get used to, but now I really enjoy the cozy mood it creates.
You have been working as a Junior Associate – What are your future career plans?
My ultimate goal is to establish a start-up-oriented law firm with a non-traditional approach to the legal industry. Until then, I want to continue developing in international contract law and corporate transactions - ideally in an environment that connects law with business strategy.
It is no surprise that I’m especially interested in working with start-ups or international firms where I can contribute to cross-border projects, negotiations, and the legal development of businesses.
What advice would you give to future students coming to Bucerius?
First of all, stop overthinking and start acting - the earlier you begin preparing, the faster you’ll reach your goals. I can’t imagine a better place to combine a legal background with something innovative, practical, and forward-looking than Bucerius.
When you arrive, be open and proactive. The program is intense, but you learn a lot - and you learn from the best. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, share your ideas, and make the most of the international network you’re surrounded by.
And of course, enjoy Hamburg - it’s an incredible city to study and live in!
Nika, Thanks for the interview!
