Marking 12 years of the MLB Program, this year’s alumni reunion took place in Hamburg on the sunny weekend of September 1-2nd. The MLB program has graduated more than 500 students from almost 100 countries in the last 12 years and it was our pleasure to welcome many alumni from around the globe back to their Bucerius Law School campus.
Dirk Hartung, Bucerius Executive Director of Legal Technology opened the event with an exciting lecture about how technology will change the face of law and legal services and how Bucerius Law School is becoming a forerunner in this new field of legal education. After a coffee break and discussion, there was a very informative guided tour of the picturesque Treppenviertel in Blankenese which allowed everyone the opportunity to soak up the sun, learn something new about the city and enjoy the beautiful views of the Elbe - there was even enough time to squeeze in a traditional Hamburger Fischbrötchen and an Astra!
The evening festivities started with a beautiful dinner reception outside on the campus where alumni had the chance to reminisce with MLB staff as well as to reconnect with their former classmates and interact with the MLB graduates of other classes. Sunday morning’s program was a relaxed oriental brunch at the Völkerkunde Museum which included a short guided tour through the south sea exhibition to the Maori House, which has been exhibited in the museum since 1912. The afternoon was free to relax, enjoy the perfect weather and catch up with friends.
On Monday evening, the annual BBQ took place, during which the alumni could also get to know the new batch of students of the MLB Class of 2019 and once again expand their networks beyond their own class. The reunion ended with another joyous celebration: the graduation ceremony of the Class of 2018 and the ceremonial enrolment of the Class of 2019.
It was wonderful to have so many alumni back on campus! We very much enjoyed the time together and are already looking forward to the next reunion!
