The book "An International Perspective on Design Protection of Visible Spare Parts" by Prof Dr Dana Beldiman and Dr med Constantin Blanke-Roeser, is a part of the "Briefs in Law" series.
The book was inspired by the first Bucerius IP Roundtable, held in the fall of 2015, and titled "The Gap Between Free Competition and IP Rights in the EU - Protecting Spare Parts?". This roundtable was aimed at exploring, from an IP-law perspective, the highly divisive legal issues surrounding spare parts, while at the same time seeking to identify areas of possible compromise. Its participants included leading experts from industry, government, public policy and academia. Stimulated by this debate in the EU, the US and a few other relevant jurisdictions, the book comprises a review of bases for possible development of the spare-parts market and the applicable law, in light of the advent of additive manufacturing technology.
