The Commission on European Family Law (CEFL) chaired by Professor Katharina Boele-Woelki has launched its fifth set of Principles, the Principles of European Family Law Regarding Property, Maintenance and Succession Rights of Couples in de facto Unions.

The CEFL has developed a comprehensive and original set of rules which may be a source of inspiration for legislating the rights and duties of couples who have not formalised their relationship. On the 4th October 2019 the Principles were presented to representatives of the Scottish Law Commission, the Scottish Parliament Policy Committee and the Family Law Society in Glasgow. The Principles have been published in book form in the EFL series and are available on the CEFL website.
