On both days of the event, several panels of noted scholars from disciplines such as Law, Economics, Policy and History covered a broad variety of topics from “Civic Totalism” to „Taking it to the (Central) Bank(s)“. It was refreshing to hear well structured and high level remarks that were in clear contrast to the populism heard in debates on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean these days.
On Friday evening, former German Supreme Court justice Prof. Dr. Udo Di Fabio gave an insightful dinner speech to the participants at Hafen-Club Hamburg. The evening concluded with a joint sing-along of on the sun deck of the newly renovated club.
The Transatlantic Law Forum is a joint initiative of the Antonin Scalia Law School’s Law & Economics Center (Arlington, VA) and the Council on Public Policy (CPP; Bayreuth, Germany). Founded by Michael S. Greve (Antonin Scalia Law School) and Michael Zöller (CPP) in 2006, the Transatlantic Law Forum aims to build a community of scholars, lawyers, judges, policymakers, and journalists with a serious interest in deepening the understanding of constitutionalism, constitutional democracy, and legal culture on both sides of the Atlantic. Its chief program is an annual conference, held in alternating years at Antonin Scalia Law School and at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany, on salient policy questions of constitutional import.
