Bucerius Law School proudly celebrated the achievements of the graduating MLB Class of 2025 on September 3rd with a wonderful ceremony in the Helmut Schmidt Auditorium. 43 students from 21 countries crossed the stage to receive their degrees, signifying that they are now Masters of Law and Business.

After a year of intensive classes, group work, presentations and the writing of a master thesis, it was a well-deserved celebration of the hard work and dedication of the class over the last 12 months.

OPENING SPEECHES

The ceremony, hosted by MLB Dean Professor Christopher Bisping was opened with speeches from Professor Dr. Michael Grünberger, President of Bucerius Law School and Professor Manual J. Hartung, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Zeit Stiftung Bucerius.

This year’s inspiring keynote speech was given by Shengming Zheng, an MLB graduate of the class of 2016, who shared his reflections about his time in the Program and discussed the uncertainties that graduates face at the end of this chapter in their lives and at the beginning of the next. He emphasized the importance of resilience and of holding on to the values that provide ‘Haltung’ - a firm stance—when navigating challenges.

DEANS SPEECH

Following the awarding of the degrees, Professor Bisping’s graduation speech explored the famous Shakespearean quote 'The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers'. He highlighted how this quote could be misinterpreted and emphasized the importance of the law and lawyers in safeguarding democracy in society, especially in today's turbulent times.

The ceremony was live streamed for the many families and friends worldwide who couldn’t attend the ceremony in person.

The ceremony also honored the hard work and outstanding contributions by both faculty members and students.

This year, the coveted Best Teacher Awards for law courses were presented to Prof. Dr. Carsten Jungmann for his course Business Entities and Estefano Martinez for Startups and Venture Capital.  The best teacher awards for courses in Business went to Andreas Meier for his course in Capital Markets and to Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner for his course in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
