Where did you work before coming to Bucerius?
I have always been passionate about independent work that allows me to leverage my creativity. This led me to roles such as CFO at a startup and working as an independent lawyer on diverse cases. Additionally, I have gained experience in the fintech and financial markets sectors
All my work has been based in Brazil; however, I have also worked remotely from Germany and Switzerland. This includes my participation in an acceleration program in St. Gallen.
You studied in the Bucerius Exchange Program – What made you decide to come back?
During my exchange semester, I was impressed by how welcoming Bucerius Law School was to international students, creating a supportive and inspiring environment. The expertise and approach of the professors left a lasting impact on me, motivating me to further explore opportunities at Bucerius.
Also, living in Germany and studying at Bucerius pushed me out of my comfort zone, offering valuable academic and professional growth. These experiences made it evident that returning to Bucerius would be a great step in continuing to build my career.
What makes the MLB Program so special in your opinion?
What makes the MLB Program special to me is its unique combination of Law and Business. It’s exactly what I need to understand more about German law while also building a foundation in business, which I didn’t have access to during my undergraduate studies. As a startup founder, I’ve realized how crucial it is to have a broader understanding of finance and accounting, and the MLB Program perfectly aligns with that.
The MLB Program has a really international class, which makes the experience even more dynamic and inspiring. The environment has already allowed me to know more about various cultures, traditions and religions, being truly enriching.
I also value how the Program encourages involvement in social projects, which aligns with my commitment to making a positive impact.
What are the biggest differences between Germany and Brazil?
A big and obvious distinction between Germany and Brazil is how the weather completely changes the atmosphere during December and January. In Brazil, those months are in the middle of summer, with temperatures often reaching 35°C and long, sunny days. It's the perfect time for beach outings and outdoor gatherings.
In Germany, though, it's winter, and temperatures can drop to around 1°C, with long, dark days and often grey skies. After years of summer time in December, it is a completely different experience to expect a white Christmas!
What’s an experience in Hamburg that is completely new to you?
One experience in Hamburg that is completely new to me is the immense cultural exchange I have found. I never imagined I would have the opportunity to learn so much about various cultures, and it has been a truly enriching experience. It is amazing to learn more about the countries these cultures come from and the personal stories of each colleague.
Hamburg also offers the possibility of a true cultural exchange in different places. We can explore a variety of cuisines, such as Turkish and Ethiopian for example, where my colleagues come from, and I have had the opportunity to share some Brazilian cuisine as well. This type of diversity that Hamburg offers is so far unique in my life.

ALL PORTRAITS
How do you like living in Hamburg?
Living in Hamburg has been an incredible experience. There are a variety of activities available. From HafenCity tours to operas, fish markets, jazz houses, both indoor and outdoor sports - there’s always something to do. In particular, I believe that the year is special here because of the changing seasons.
I love experiencing the full cycle—from the sunny days to the beautiful colors of fall, the flowers blooming in spring, and the snow in winter. These are all things I never experienced in Brazil, and I find it absolutely amazing to witness nature in such diverse forms throughout the year.
What are your future career plans?
My journey has taken me through various roles, from being an associate lawyer to running my own consulting startup. Now, in Hamburg, I'm rediscovering myself professionally and Germany has so much to offer. My goal is to find a path that allows me to blend my creative strengths with the knowledge I have acquired so far, academically and professionally, creating something meaningful.
What advice would you give to future students coming to Bucerius?
Be true to yourself and your goals. Stay responsible, enthusiastic, and determined, but also remember the importance of resilience. There will be times when you can't be your best version—maybe because cold weather made it hard to stay productive. But don't give up, and never forget the true reason you're experiencing this moment. Your authenticity is what makes you special, and that will carry you through both the good times and the challenges.
Ana Luísa, Thanks for the interview!
