Recently, there was a great joy of reunion on the Bucerius Law School campus when the three completed courses of the Legal Function Excellence Campus were welcomed to Hamburg once again by the Bucerius Executive Education.
A total of 20 former participants of the successfully established program met on campus together with several guests of honor and discussed hot topics from and for legal practice.
Keynote on Corporate Legal Transformation
As a special item on the agenda, Freek Staehr (Head of Regulatory Affairs, Tech Law and Operations at SAP Legal) gave a keynote speech on the topic of Corporate Legal Transformation - Quo vadis? and thus on the question of how the modern legal department could (and should?) undergo a structural change that puts people at the center and focuses on participation, joint design and networking instead of specifications and hierarchy. “It was a great pleasure to be able to take part in the Alumni Summit. The Bucerius Executive Education has created a great program, the inspiring presentations by the participants and the exciting discussions speak for themselves.”
Alumni Presented Practical Examples
The cross-industry exchange between the very different (and yet so similar) companies is what has always made this program so special. This could once again be seen during the summit, where three alumni brought practical examples of how they have applied what they learned on campus in their everyday work. This practical insight was rounded off by a World Café format in which the participants were able to continue their discussions interactively in 4 smaller groups. Shaun Gibson (Legal Director Global Sports Marketing & Business Affairs, Adidas AG), who participated in the third course was more than content with the program: “The Bucerius Excellence Campus program was a very rewarding experience, re-shaping my perceptions of what a successful in-house legal team should be. I highly recommend this course to any in-house lawyer looking to modernize their legal operations and stay ahead in an ever-evolving legal landscape.”
Fifth Round of Program - Start in November
In addition to the three courses that have already completed the program, the fourth Legal Function Excellence Campus has already made it through two out of four modules and the fifth round is ready to start in November. The association of nine legal departments from cooperating companies was originally launched in 2019 and has grown into an extensive exchange across industries ever since.
The “Legal Function Excellence Campus” program specifically for legal departments, which runs for a total of one and a half years and concludes with a Certificate in Business & Legal Management, will start again in spring 2025 with its 6th course. Further information on the possibilities to participate in the program as a cooperation partner can be found here.
