Freelance Legal English Instructor / Common law Law Lecturer (m/f/d)
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Legal English Instructor to deliver engaging and practice-oriented Legal English language training.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and interactive Legal English communication training to German students undertaking undergraduate legal studies.
- Teach legal terminology, professional language, and effective communication skills for international legal contexts.
- Plan and deliver structured lessons aligned with learners’ proficiency levels and learning objectives.
- Develop, adapt and maintain high-quality teaching materials and resources.
- Design and facilitate practical exercises, including speaking, writing, case analysis, legal correspondence, and role-play activities.
- Assess learners’ progress and provide constructive, individualised feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Monitor learner development and adapt teaching approaches to address learning needs and areas for improvement.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive and learner-centred environment that encourages active participation and confidence in using English.
- Collaborate, where appropriate, with the Academic Director to ensure that Legal English training supports students’ broader academic and professional development
Requirements
- LL.B., LL.M., J.D., or equivalent, from a common law or mixed civil/common-law jurisdiction.
- Native-level (C2) proficiency in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse learners
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver learner-centered, interactive, and engaging training sessions.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as a language trainer, lecturer, or in a comparable teaching or training role.
- A Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL qualification.
- Professional experience working in a law firm environment.
