European Family Law Conference

The conference will provide an overview of a variety of 'hot' topics of European Family Law.

IAFL is a worldwide association of practising lawyers who are recognised by their peers as the most experienced and skilled family law specialists in their respective countries.

IAFL was formed in 1986 to improve the practice of law and the administration of justice in the area of divorce and family law throughout the world.

About the program:

• International Child Abduction and the Protection of Children - Prof. Dr. Henrike von Scheliha will present a recent case and related court orders, as well as relevant aspects of German constitutional law. Panel discussion to follow.
• The connection between international family law and immigration law - this panel will address frequently asked questions, such as:
• Is a marriage which ends abroad (including religious marriages) valid?
• Adopting and fostering in family reunification
• International child abduction in compliance with a deportation order
• Jurisdiction for divorce proceedings in different systems: Forum convenience vs. EU regulations
• Maintenance and other financial consequences of a divorce: jurisdiction, applicable law and cross border enforcement
• Presentation by the winner of the IAFL European Chapter Young Lawyers' Award 2025
