The past few months have seen a frenzy of regulatory announcements surrounding cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. While the desire to tame the “crypto wild west” is understandable, determining the optimal scope and content of regulation requires identifying the rationales behind the different proposed measures. Focusing on evidence from the early days of the pandemic, Ass. Prof. Dr Roee Sarel (Universität Hamburg, Institut für Recht und Ökonomik) will discuss which market failures are potentially consistent with the evidence and highlight regulatory challenges.
