Free Speech is one of the fundamental rights in all democracies worldwide and must be persevered – but is the concept of Free Speech still working? Coinciding with this topic, people in the U.S. will be going to vote at the same time. We invite you to participate in our discussion and share your thoughts, accompanied by a glass of wine, pretzels and the astonishing view from our roof top bar.
Is the law up to date when it comes to internet platforms and social media? Do we need content regulation to limit extensive (mis)use of Free Speech or will content regulation kill Free Speech?
Close to 80% of the German population’s main source of information is the internet, and in particular the large platforms have gained a significant impact on discussions dealing with all major topics. The significance of the internet as source of information and spot for discussions on the one hand and a lack of (enforcement of) laws and regulations on the other hand have raised several concerns in the past years, in particular with respect to the concept of Free Speech.
In this session, we will discuss the European approach to content regulation. We invite you to participate in our discussion and share your thoughts, accompanied by a glass of wine, pretzels and the astonishing view from our roof top bar. Coinciding with this topic, people in the U.S. will be going to vote at the same time as our session. So please feel free to make predictions with us after the session about who will win the White House.
